The only picture I've so far found of one of my Grandad's ship from WW1. HMS Agincourt. She was being built for an Arab country at the outbreak of war, and the RN nicked it. The officers quarters were so opulent she was nicknamed "The Gin Palace". After G'dad went to another posting she was in the Battle of Jutland. Heavily armed with 14 guns she fired 160 shells at the Jerries with no recorded hits.

Steve, so you were in the Royal Navy?

Where was the Agincourt docked in that photo you posted?

Anne, I can't recall exactly where offhand but I do know it was one of the Scottish shipbuilders yards. In the photo it appears she was about to do her sea trials, note the gun turret which has not yet had it's guns laid, and the tug under steam off her port bow.

Steve, I bet Pam would know where it is. There is a very distinctive cathedral or suchlike in the background. Awesome photo.

Just a thought but that tower in the background looks a lot like Windsor Castle to me could big ships get up the river that far?
