I have been very happy this week with the response from Lyn - what a result! not just pictures of the courtyard behind my house but the twins - around 3-4 years old in the courtyard as well. Then the house from the front - amazing even though i left at the age of 10 my memory had played tricks - but again I could verify the picture with another of my Gran stood outside the front. And then there was another picture of the sweet shop, the fruit and veg shop and the row of shops in alma st. I don't know where they originated but they are fab. So this is a result for Birmingham History Forum! thank you again
So here's another story, in one of the pictures I recognised the steps that a large women would sit on whilst watching the kids. My mom did not think much of her as she told us that she was the sort of woman that went without underwear! Well, this woman fascinated us because at least once a week she would call someone out for a street fight - bearing in mind the previous sentence it was a sight!
Well, we were discussing that tonight and decided that the equivalent of that type of person today is often referred to as a chav in todays language. I am thinking very overweight, ponytail and pink tracksuit with a mouth as loud!
