I believe the Photo was taken in 1963  8th of March to be precise

Yes Spud,

You are correct , I've just discovered that it's from the DJ Norton collection (I should have known that). It just shows how the information such as names and dates can become corrupted over the years.

Here we have the junction of Colmore Row and New Street. featuring Lyons Corner House. The place all us lads took our new girlfriend on our first date after seeing the latest film on the Odeon. Though I have to say I much preferred the Wimpy Bar around the corner at the top of New Street.

Funny how we'd never give that building a second glance when we were younger. We were more interested in modern, shiny places that were springing up.

Just picking up on Roy's comment do you remember some of the shipping lines had offices around there. I remember looking at the models of the Liners in their windows. Never thought I would ever sail on one of those but I've been on a few since retiring

Back in 1965 my wife was in Loveday St expecting our youngest daughter she had this fetish for Wimpys. At the time I had a 50 cc Moped. I would stop at the Wimpy Bar in New St grab a Wimpy for her shove up my coat to keep it warm and race round to Loveday and deliver still warm to the wife.
