One of my brothers worked there as a Saturday boy and used to take my friend and I up on the roof at lunchtime for a sandwich and a cigarette.

I have no memory whatsoever of a roof.

GG, right, I did look at them earlier. I'm just saying, I have no recollection of a roof garden. Must have been nice 'cos I love anything like that.

I can't remember there being a garden from when I was a child, perhaps we just didn't go up. It was only when my brother and I were teenagers that we used to sneak up on the roof and there was nothing like that then.

I remember lewis and the roof top our mom you to buy a turkey frame for half a crown from the food hall it use to last two days and feed 5 of us we all  use to suck the bones

I was on the roof a couple of months ago in my job capacity it,s now full of Air Handling Units.It has become 2 different buildings now Temple Court and Priory Court.When we went into town it was a real treat to go up to the Childrens Garden.Dek

Back in 1939/41 Lewis.s had a childrens Zoo up on the roof.
A donkey to give rides,a monkey that shook your hand
and I seem to remember a ccouple of nanny goats,rabbits
and parrots, Dont know what happened to it but all was closed for the war,,,,,,,,,

a photo of my jazz band appeared in the B'ham mail after playing for a Jazz perfume promotion at Lewis's ,must be about 20 years ago, i knew the then manager as we used to perform at his sports club ,which is probably why we got the gig, its definately a question about who you know !!!
