I also remember having the ends of my hair singed with a match after it has been cut!
I'm just glad that practice didn't develop to include men's nose hairs. :o

Lewis's Pedal Cars: The Austin J40 was built in Bargoed, S. Wales by disabled miners and cost £33 when production started in 1949, it was a top quality pedalcar which featured working headlights, opening boot and bonnet, brake and a real small Austin steering wheel. Fully restored examples sell today for up to £3500 and there is an owner's club. Link: http://www.austinworks.com/pedalcar.html

Was it really? I remember my mum buying me Vyella when I was in Primary school! But the brand name Vyella is still around today. I had no idea it was Lewis's. I always loved that store.

Other brand names started by Lewis's are Kids HQ and Miss Selfridge, are they still around today?
