Street Lighting
« on: September 25, 2011, 12:35:19 PM »
Does anybody know why all the street lighting is being changed. From what I can see there seems to be little difference except the new light stands are a little higher and I suppose the lamps are the new energy saving type.

Why though could the existing ones not be converted with new lamp holders instead of all the expense of replacing them?

Can anybody shed any light on the matter (pun intended)

So why couldn't the existing lights be adapted with new lamps?

you may be right, but I still cant see why the original lamp posts could not be converted with news lamps instead of a massive programme requiring that all the posts be replaced.

I understood that each district will have different coloured lamp posts to identify that suburb from another. In some cases sponsorship from companies pay for the paint job. For example, Bournville has blue posts, the same blue as Cadbury wrappers. Aston could have claret and blue etc.
