the rag man

does anyone remember the ragman that used to be down the bottom of long acre in nechells  we where always taking old clothes and rags to exchange them for money also i remember a rag and bone man came around and would give you a balloon or gold fish for rags i gave my best coat to him once for a balloon i thought it was great but mom didnt and she had to chase him to get it back of him kids eh!

Hi Phil48,  The rag yard I  recall in the 1940/50s was owned by the Turner family, in Cuckoo Road, Nechells, I often took old clothes there, to get a balloon, I was in the same class at Eliot Street School, as one of the sons Roy, I believe they later went into the scrap business.
