Villa Cross shops
« on: December 29, 2011, 05:54:21 AM »
Hello, All
Does anyone have any pictures of the shops between Wilkinsons and the Villa Cross picture house, prior to 1970 ?
Thanks
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

Welcome to the forum, exactly what shop was you looking for? At the moment this is the best photo that I am able to come up with.

Hi, Phil
Thanks a lot. This photo was taken after our old shop was taken over.
If memory serves, the shop on the right is where my grandfather had his shop. The name on the front was HULSE, and was a clothing shop (milliner)
Regards
Nigel

Hi, Phil
When you say you worked in the shop in 1961, I suppose you are referring to Wilkinson's?
1961 is five years after we left for South Africa, so my Grandfather would have been running Hulse's shop.

In the 1960's I had a wonderful girlfriend (Sandra) who worked in the Florists Shop on the right hand side of the road when walking towards Lozells Road.  Does anyone remember the shop?

I don't remember the shop but there was a florist called "Roselle" on Villa Rd just before Barker St.

Thanks Phil.  The name `Roselle' sounds familiar and the shop was just before Barker Street.   I recall that the owner who `we' once visited lived near Lichfield.  I believe he had more than one Florist shop in the City. Happy days.
