The Broadway closed for renovations and reopened in April 1956 as the Cinephone specialising in foreign sex films.
It closed in September 1977 but reopened again as a private members cinema having two names during its short life  the Gala and the Climax cinemas. It closed its doors for the last time in 1984.

I don't remember that particular pork pie factory, but I agree with what you say about pork pies. They are nothing like what they used to be.  Although I have to point out that we are now straying off topic. If you want to start another thread on the subject then please feel free to do so.

It's always a pleasure to talk to you no matter what the topic, and it takes time to get to understand the way forums work. I'm sure you will pick it up.

I think the pool you were talking about must have been the old Kent Street Swimming baths which lay empty for many years, but I think they are finally gone now.

Hi phil no mate it wasn't Kent st baths this was up above where they used to have the fair which you have spoken about before this other one was tiled that is why i thought it could have a swimming bath might just have been private but as i said before it had been bombed, but when they regenerated the place they done away with half the roads i can remember in been behind the church and if my memory serves me there was also a TA Barracks round about there i think it was fenced off and we must have got in through the fencing it was quite well known back in 1948/50 this might bring back a memory there was a lady killed at the back of the church and covered over with the tin sheeting off one of the roofs or fencing. alan

Hi Alan

The only churches I can remember down that section of Bristol St would be St Luke's or the Baptist Church. They were the only ones I can remember on that side of the road.

By the way I'm only a baby, I will be 65 shortly.
