It certainly was in that position in 1967 when I had my last tattoo done at that shop on the corner. Dowding & Mills had two premises one on Camp Hill and one over the road in Warner St. What you can see is the rear of the Camp Hill premises.
This is what the same photo looks like today.

Roy,
There is no doubt,it is the begining of the Coventry Rd,at the bottom of Camp Hill.
What is in question is the existence of the Downing and mills factory,in that position at that time.If you look towards Camp Hill you will notice the cars parked out side the actual position of Dowding and mills. O0

I have no problem with this photo Dowding a Mills did have a factory building that ran down the back to the Coventry Rd as seen in the photo.Dek

Hello Vauxonion,
If you look under the flyover at photo (50,66 you can see clearly the buildings and the railway station that was on the corner of Bedford Rd at the time of the photo at 37,89
Dowding and Mills was certainly not there then. O0

NB: If the old Buildings were in situ post flyover.
Then surely they should be in view pre flyover O0

Right Gee Gee I see your point the explanation I can give you is that the photo showing you the D&M building has been taken later than the one showing the buses on the flyover. The flyover could be there but out of shot the old building next to the corner shop has been demolished and the New D&M building has now replaced it. Hope that makes sense.Dek

Phil,
       Sorry to labour this point.
The flyover was constructed 1965.
Basnkas photo is pre construction it does not depict the old dwellings on the corner of Bedford Rd or the railway station.
Your photo (50.66 is post construction it shows the old dwellings, the railway station, but no dowding and mills. O0

Gee Gee I feel the 2 photos are taken from different angles the railway station is still there but not in shot. On the D&M photo this has been built on the site of the demolished building. You cannot be sure that the flyover was not there as the shot is taken from the edge of the island so no date can be assumed. Hi Vauxonion,
Sorry I'm still not sold, had the photo been post construction, then we would have seen the supports of the flyover, which took up two thirds of the roundabout, plus the congrete base would have been disturbed. O0

This 1970's OS map shows the corner. It shows in fact Dowding & Mills factory running off Camp Hill and the rear of it on Coventry Road with room enough for car parking. In reality Bedford Rd is quite a way from the corner.
