Hi Chris

Welcome to the forum, I'm afraid this is the best photo of the Justice Inn that I have. I'm afraid I don't know when it closed but I will try to find out for you.

No problem mate, The Justice was at the junction of Frankfort St, you can see it here on the middle left of this map. I will ask a local that I know when it was demolished.

I have just spoken with Lyn, and she gave me this much better photo of The justice Inn. She says this was taken in 1961 and there were no signs of the demolition crews at that time. It must have been toward the mid 60's when they cleared the street,

Hi, I see from this thread that at 86 Great Russell Street was the Justice Inn.  Could you help with the name of the premises at 85 Great Russell Street, please?  I see from the 1871 Census that the occupant's trade was 'Beerhouse Keeper.'

Hi Bigwheel,

Welcome to you, all I can tell you is that until 1912 at least No 85 was listed as a beer retailer. This could mean it was either an outdoor (offsales) or a beer house. An often unnamed pub that was only licenced to sell beer.
By 1937 it wasn't listed at all and by 1950 the whole corner 83, 84 & 85 had become a sheet metal works.

Thanks for the information Phil.  Two of my great-grandfather's brothers moved from Somerset to Birmingham with their families c.1880 so I'm looking for photographic evidence of their living/work places.
