how times change. I dont think i have been on a bus for almost 20yrs. i have noticed even the 55 or the 56 bypasses alum rock rd now and goes down washwood heath rd. if I caught a bus nowadays, I doubt i would get to my destination :D

Didn't the #56 always go via Washwood Heath Road? (never been on a #55).

I can recall waiting at the bus stop out side the brookhill going towards tile cross and catching a 56 or 55 and also waiting for the bus on the otherside of the rd outside southalls (smith and nephew) catching a 55 or 56 to town but can never recall the 56 going down washwood heath back in those days. also the no. 14 at the same stops
I may be wrong so dont quote me lol :-\

One reason I thought that the #56 went down there was the fact that they like to site bus garages (such as Washwood Heath Garage) on bus routes, so that there'll be a minimum of dead mileage when buses leave or return to the garage  -  and I couldn't think of any other bus route that used Washwood Heath Road.

Tram-mania has ensured that there are several Internet sites that list Birmingham's tram routes, but I haven't found one that lists the motor-bus routes yet  -  maybe I've just been unlucky.  :-\

I think the 55 & 56 ran the same route until they reached the Gate Saltley, then the 56 went off up Washwood Heath Rd and the 55 up Alum Rock Rd. The 14 ran down Corporation st, and Aston Rd then down Great Lister St to Saltley then I think it took the same route as in the clip, but the 14 was a bus that I never used beyond Saltley.

The 55 went up Alum Rock and turned left at the bottom of Burney Lane and then did a right into Stechford Rd.onto Shard End.

The 56 went up Washwood Heath and turned round at the border which at that time was the Clock Garage. Dek

you have both triggered my memory banks now. yes it was the 14 and 55 I used to wait for outside the brookhill / smith and nephew. It was when i was coming back from town, i used to wait for either the 14 or 55 and it was the 56 that nearly always came 1st so i used to let it go by. thanks for the memory reboot O0

i used the 14 more than once over the years coming from the terminus at tile cross when the bus used to terminate at the island  not from where you see in the film, the bit that i find interesting is the gate at saltley how much it has changed and what was the pub called on the corner of washwood heath road the white building on the right at the lights anybody know?
