Is anywhere in this city safe at night?

I have lived mainly south side and have found the "posher" area's the most frightening for a lone female to walk at night.  When younger i would not walk alone for fear of being mistaken for a lady of the night. These days i would not be in anyone's sights for those reasons but mugging is a worry.

I lived for a few years in Hollywood/Wythall which is classed as i nice area. I then moved to Kings Norton and felt much safer.

Jacqueline how is it you feel safer in Kings Norton as against Wythall area?.
Not having lived in either but, from impressions on driving through them, I would have considered the opposite to be true.
I view Wythall more rural than Kings Norton and hence a safer bet to be.
Still one's safety is in the eye of the beholder and as you rightly opened with - Is any area truly safe.

Looking back at my last post it is about as clear as mud. ::)

Let me try and explain my comments better.

Wythall is quite an affulent area. The problem is it is within spitting distance of Birmingham. Hence anyone with crime in mind think they might get richer pickings in the Wythall area. While living within the city you tend to blend into the background more. Not that i am a rich person or even look like one as i wear very little jewellery because that is just asking for trouble.

However although i feel safer in the city with regards to house security and personal safety i cannot say the same for vehicle crime as i have experienced a number of attempts to steal our car in the past.

Im from Erdington, I dont feel any safer walking in Erdington than I do in any other areas. I frequently walk around areas in the middle of the night (somehow that doesnt quite sound right ;) )

You never used to think twice about a someone walking his dog. But do you feel safe when you pass a young man wearing a hooded top, walking a bull mastif?

A good idea would be to take some Karate lessons :P .. but seriously the best soluton  is to keep fit and be ready to instant sprint. It seems to be the most effective method.

By the way I live in Smethwick near Albion Stadium, and it's prety safe. But sometimes I can spot hooted guys with unclear intentions.
