Rag and Bone man
Dont know if this thread has been coverd before if not here goes.
When i was young i can remember the rag and bone man coming up the street with his horse and cart (steptoe and son to a tee) still watch it.. It all depended on how many rags you took out if it was a few, you got a balloon or two, if you took loads out you got a goldfish.plus manure for grandads garden. Great Days long gone.
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

Just watched a programme called scrappers and was amazed to see in London that the rag and bone man with his horse and cart are still going strong. The old chap is now training his young grandson of 15 all the tricks of the trade. Well done keep going

here, there are two types of rag and bone men - the one's that ''call out aloud'' actually play it on a tape /CD and have vehicles -

the more genuine are older men with dilapidated tricycles who rarely call out and collect any clothing / rags, bottles and larger plastic containers (bleach size) from rubbish bins - there's a couple I know and they get anything we have apart from some trousers and shoes that go to workers where we live.
Integrity is non negotiable

I don't think we will ever see the likes of these on our streets again unless it is for some sort of carnival or parade.
Phil died in 2020. RIP.
