My uncle used to manage Grays on the Coventry Road, he eventually went on his own and started Midland Motorcycles a few doors away. He is my only surviving relative from my parents side and is in his eighties. He lives in Kitts Green and I visit him approx twice a year..

To Rod Brigham

The DZ met in St Basil's church in Heathmill lane just off Digbeth High Street and was run by Dave Collier who was the vicar.  There used to be a coffee bar there and you could also buy non alcoholic beer which tasted awful.
I remeber one Christmas Eve Dave holding a midnight mass in which he passed round the communion wine vessel and it came back with more than it started as several members had topped it up with spirits as it went round.
There used to be races down Heathmill lane with bikes taking off over the canal bridge. Some of the more adventurous types would go down to London to the Ace cafe and back. My brother (who still rides and still has never bothered getting his car licence) use to be on the committee and we would often take the DZ banner with us if we went to any motorcycle rallies

Sherwood Motor Cycles is still going just about. They have recently moved out of one of their showrooms and now only have two smaller premises it looks as if they are slowly closing down their stocks appear to be quite small compared to a few years ago.
