Todays pub is the ideal place to start for those who want to try walking in the country. Situated in Hampton in Arden short walk from the station is the White Lion . trains every half hour.
A map and compass is a must. Some of the walks are  on the old
A to Z pages 110 to 111.the best if you are new at it is, straight south from white lion bringing you to the bulls head Barston.I think it is no more than three and a half miles return. Both pubs are highly recomended.

Nathan,
I have been in the White Lion a few times as my wifes parents lived at Hampton-in-Arden. Another we used was the Engine for drinks and meals.

I used to go to White Lion for lunch quite often, remember their desserts  especially gooseberry fool in season.

I think the  Bulls Head is the one where they have a very good fete once a year  with Pig Roast  etc, If anyone knows different please correct me.

I have only been to the Engine once and can't remember what is was like. Its adjacent to the station.

There is a good circular walk from Hampton around the lake at Barston and you can pop into the clubhouse at the Golf Course on the Lake.

Haven't been in the Orange Tree for years, they used to do a reasonable meal there. Do they still do meals?
