I thought I'd been imagining it as well, Townie. I used to call there as well, in the early 80's. That and the Wig and Pen. Wasn't it a below ground pub?

WW

Sorry to repeat this post but someone must know.

Hi everyone. Can anyone remember a pub in Dale End it was built into the ramp, I think later it was called Sarah Moons but before that I think it was called the Hole in the Wall. Does anyone know?

Does anyone remember a pub called The Brown Darby (or Derby), which had an entrance below an intersection of Corporation Street, 1980s?
Is it still there and what's the reason for it's name (a hat?).

I remember it , I never went in there it was it was demolished in the 1990's , I can't help on why it was called the Brown Derby , I suppose it makes achange from the Kings Head

Brown Derby ? Probably named after chain of US Restaurants originating in LA The buildings shaped like a Brown Derby or Bowler hat as we might call it.

Yes, I always thought it could be the hat as well. It looks like a bucket hat. A Darby, I think. I wonder how many pubs are left since I was there. Most I went to were in the city itself. I know Scruffy Murphies is there (just found that out); In my day it was The Wig and Pen. I think The Hole in the Wall underground pub is there (also in Dale End ?). Is it now called Peaky Blinders?
