I suppose it would have been the ideal place surrounded by industrial units and after the railway club closed there would be little reason for anyone to go down a lonely backstreet such as that at night.

Thanks that would be much appreciated if you could. The one I took was only an after thought after visiting the Museum Collection Storage warehouse in Dollman Street. I was quite amused to see that the warehouse covered the site of my old family house in Inkerman St.

Hi Guys,

Dollman St.(Erskine St. end) V.E. Day 1945. Rolly Nicklin is the guy all dressed up; to the right of his left hand is my aunt, Mavis Whittington(36 Erskine St.) and to her right is Molly Lynch(34 Erskine St).

Hi Tony,

Great photo, a little to early for any personal memory from me as I would be -2 in 1945, more of the same would be more than welcome.

Hi Steve,

I hope I have this correct.....did you once mention the Bradnock family of Arden Rd. If so, then I have a wonderful old photo taken between 1925-34 of George Bradnock(same family-I spoke to them many years ago) with my great-grandfather, his best mate.

Tony, I will contact you by PM, as I think George may still be with us. I know he was still alive as of 2 years or so back so it wouldn't be right to put the photo up without permission I think.

Steve,

I would not do that. This photo is of the father of the guy you are talking about, and he would have been born about the 1890s.

Sorry Tony, I was part absorbed in happy childhood memories and didn't properly consider the dates. :-[

Hi Steve,

Here is what I was told about this photo when I copied it in about 1985. The photo comes from my great-grandmother's album. My great-aunt: "My great-grandfather(her father), Joe Humpage(Adelaide Terrace, Erskine St) who died in 1934 is holding the wheel-barrow with his work-mate, George Bradnock, sitting in the wheel-barrow with his clay pipe, bowler hat and jug of ale. He was known as 'Uncle George' and moved to Arden Road"
