I've just watched on video about the Bull Ring circa 1965 which talks of a Ballroom within the Bull Ring. I lived in Birmingham 1957-85 but don't remember this ballroom. Can anyone help? Also I used to go in a pub on Priory Queensway in late 1970s but for the life of me can't remember its name. It was where the Grey Lantern is now situated. Anybody remember it back then?
Thanks if you are able to assist

Clonbron surely that Grey Lantern was the original Priory public house , I lived in the city centre during the 60's with the Mod culture . Too be honest I can't remember a ballroom in the bullring . Before replying I did check on Wiki and within the first couple of sentences they now include Grand Central station(New St) as part of the Bull Ring . That said corner of Hurst St and Smallbrook Queensway was the La Dolce Vita a night club very good in it's day . Also talking of perimeters when you got to the end of New Street turned left into Hight St  first you had the Rainbow club above the Co-Op  then a few years later the Birmingham Suite came into existence supposedly to replace the good old West End . Me and a couple of mates visited the new dance hall just the once , it would never replace the West End it later became the Hummingbird say no more . While I don't know of a ballroom somebody may turn up with the answer . Good luck

Colnbron,Scipio,
I was a ballroom dancer though the 60s and didn’t know of a ballroom in that area. All other dance places in town i used.

Thanks Scipio for taking trouble to reply. Out of the blue, the name of the pub on Priory Queensway came to me: The Cabin.  Like you I have no recollection of the ballroom in the Bull Ring. I was 8 in 1965, so it wouldn't have been relevant in my life, and no-one else in the family would have had any interest.
Thanks again

Thanks to everyone else posting on the topic. The video I watched on Youtube was a promotional film from 1965 on the Bull Ring Shopping Centre narrated by the erstwhile newcaster Richard Baker. I'll have another watch in case I've misunderstood, but I don't think so. The link to this video is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWglgu--Wvc
Thanks

Scipio
I was thinking of the building here (later incarnation from 2009 streetview) by new st statiion , with the blanked out windows. It had a big fire.

In the 1971 Kellys I assume it was the entry described as :
Mecca Banqueting suite , 530 Grand Parade, Bull Ring Cantre

Scipio - I think you've cracked it. In terms of the location it fits with what is described in the video, and Mecca of course is synonymous with ballroom dancing

Spud if that's the entrance on what was Hill St years ago ? I don't think of any building being on the New St station side of Smallbrook Ringway in the Bullring . Well done anyway you mentioned the Mayfair , I was thinking more down and around the stalls for the location which I couldn't picture at all .
