Now I know what 2 up and 2 down is .... I know because that is the type of house still standng but built in 1876 in Cincinnati, Ohio; an "I-House", that my Mom grew up in.  No in-door plumbing until about 1952 - of aall things!

The were large room and it looked very much like a farm house.  Not bad for an English home that once housed 7 brothers and sisters.  I even have photos of it and I'd show it if I knew how! - sh

Hello sh

Is this what your I- House looked like. Sorry the image is small.

You need a scanner or digital camera to get the photo of your I-house on this site. Ask a friend!  ;)

Yes, except the houses above show shutters of the windows and don't show the front or the largeness of the yard.  Thanks!  It is a joy to see similar houses!

I do have a digital camera - but the house is 1280 mi N; and I do have an HP ScanJet 6300C.  I also have photos of the I-House which I'll gladly share if someone will just tell me how to do what you did.

sh,

Do you want a 'step through' to place your pictures on the site?

You need to prepare them for posting. I find a file size of less than 500Kb best 200 kb ideal .
If I make the assumption you can do that we can come back to it at a later stage if necessary.
Click new on the posting you wish to include a picture in.
See the little icon like a postcard above the first smillie?
click it it will show as img  /img
Now you need to upload your picture.

Go to:   http://imageshack.us/

Where it says 'Choose File' locate your image

the two boxes below on the left tick both selecting 320x240 for websites and email
host it and wait till the upload is complete

navigate to the bottom of the page to the option Direct link to image
e.g. http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/74/jumperxj4.jpg

almost finished.
Go back to the img  /img and insert the link in between the little gap
eg img http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/74/jumperxj4.jpg/img
press preview to view and then post when your happy with it.

any probs. I'm sure someone will help if I'm not around

It only took me 3 days to log the photo herein; I finally did it my way.  (I've been with computers since 1978 and take to them well; then I postedr to ASTON.  I've been known to gloss over that which is important!

My Mother, who was born in 1911 and married in 1938, was born in this house.  She was an Ashforth; her father was Thomas Williams and her mother was Sarah Ann Olarenshaw Ashforth; her father son of Robert Thomas Ashforth, eventually of Aston. sh

I finally made it by looking over all possibilities offered by this site, then chose hte "reply" method; but first I made the photo smaller than it was:  full screen.  I knew it was too big as it was.  sh

Beautiful house!   Does it still exist?

My only criticism about your scan is that it is in RGB color.
The file size would be smaller in Greyscale (black & white).
On your scanner, choose Greyscale from the Output Type menu.

Have a look at this: http://daytonology.blogspot.com/2007/09/why-daytonology.html
Photos and drawings of 'your' I- House!

 :)  Thanks!!!!

I've read almost all the two articles on the I-Houses.

Yes, the house still stands and seems almost as if it will stand for a long time; it must have been made with good wood.  The last time I saw it at 4805 Winton Road in Cincinnati was about 7 years ago; it has not been in the family for about 10 years; I do have a drawing and a tax paper on same.

The print shown is in Greyscale (according to my printer, but I scanned it again to be able to show it here); but I know what you mean.  sh

I know this wasted posted years ago but I've just come across it and would like to comment.

My father, Arthur Leonard Simmons (Len) was the owner of Stella Tyre (name after the wife of his then partner, Austin May).  He sold the business to Fort Dunlop in the early 60s, I think.
