What a warren of little industries Louis Lorne Rd was.  One of my Uncles had a yard up there in the early 60's. I often went there to pass an hour or two. It always amazed me how many little businesses there were up there.

I remember a mate, who's family had just came down from Scotland, they had a flat in Trafalgar Rd. It was the ground floor of one of those big houses. The ground floor was bigger than our house, and the garden was like a park.

That was probably Robert, the younger brother, David jr; the eldest brother, was in charge of the servicing where i worked as a "grease monkey"

Phil,

you are right about about the area being a warren of small units, I remember how they would pass on business to each other if one was too busy or didn,t have the resources to do a job themselves.

Bobby

Nearly every district in Birmingham had hundreds of small businesses at one time. I watched thousands of them fail, through no fault of their own. It was all down to one woman.

Sadly the more that went bump, the more our business increased, We didn't plan it that way when we started out. It was just the result of Thatcherism.

I think the loss of all those little back street businesses are the reason why we have to pay top money for every little service now. Yes in among all the good little firms there were some cowboys, but on the whole they provided a good service, "if you couldn't get it made in Birmingham, you couldn't get it done anywhere". You can't say that today.

Denise has asked me to post part of her postcard collection as she is having a little difficulty in resizing them. She is away overnight but will do a commentary on them when she returns.

Two more, I'll leave the rest until Denise returns so she hasn't got too much to catch up on.
