Phil and denise,

You two were very lucky, I never went further than St. Oney - just down the Lane :)

I used to work all through the winter, save all my money and as soon as the warm weather arrived we hit the road. Its amazing how long you could make your money last, and you could always augment it with a bit of fruit picking or casual.

I mostly slept under the stars in a sleeping bag, only using a tent when it rained. It was a wonderful life, and one that I miss.

Yes wonderful days I bet Phil.

Days of no responsibility.
We had very little money. Some days the lads would fish and I still remember the taste of the fishand chunky bread.

When I look back I don;t know how we survived really.I suppose money went much further then.

We still camp when the weather is good.Don't think I could cope with how we did it in those days but we still enjoy it,much better equipment though  :)

For Phil and denise from Mary Hopkin.

''Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end,

We'd sing and dance for ever and a day.

We'd live the life we'd choose,

We'd fight and never lose......''    keep on singing..

.....it's a great song that had those days to a 'T', and she sang it so well. O0

Me too, she had a vibrant yet clear and sensitive range.  I also liked 'her 'Tema Harbour''.  There is a Tema Harbour by Accra, the capital of Ghana, so when I went to live in Accra, it was an early stop....hate to disappoint you but it was a typicaly foul West African harbour, despite not being that old.  Before it was constructed, ALL sea freight including passengers had to come ahore through strong surf in lighters - it used to be quite an adventure according to the old coasters.
And it was a morning or day's entertainment for watchers.  It was still done with some freight  to avoid the high port handling charges when I was there.

She was a beautiful girl.
