Does anyone remember "The House That Jack Built" in Newtown ?, would love to see a photo if anyone has one. Mom used to take me there on the 113, 107 or 42 bus from Colledge Road Kingstanding.

Hi Zak

I thought I had posted this before, but in case I haven't here it is again. The House that Jack Built shortly before it was demolished.

At the risk of being classified as someone who hangs round alleyways and passages.  I am posting these because as far as I am aware they are now gone and can no longer be seen.

Christchurch Passage at the top of New Street, two photos one each way now gone.
Crooked Lane which used to end on the High St gone now but was one of the oldest streets in Birmingham.
Colonnade Passage ran from New St to Stephenson St, alongside the Theatre Royal when it was still with us.

Great to see Christchurch Passage again - was one of my favourite locations in town.  Phil, after doing a project entitled "The Entries & Alleyways of King's Heath" I've been branded - so you're not alone !  I think I can trace my problem back to the days when the bookie's runner stood in an entry in Bank Street and my Grandad used to send me over with a two-bob piece wrapped up in his bet.

One of my library of railway books has a picture of Shut Lane in it.I have Googled Shut Lane and discovered this interesting page.Slice of luck.it has the reasons for several street names.Fascinating, even for a Smethwick lad. O0

You should not have said that, because I am now going to drive you mad with my collection of alleyways and passages. By the way if anybody has difficulty in remembering any of these just give me the nod and I will remind you.

First another shot of Crooked Lane
Next Needless Alley
Last of these three New Meeting Street.

Phil,

Fabulous !  Three more favourite locations.  Sometimes went to The Stage Door in New Meeting Street after we had spent the evening in various city centre folk clubs in the 1960s.

Keep 'em coming.

Phil some of these old alleys certainly jog the memory remember  the names but can,t put a position to some of them remind me on Crooked Lane and New Meeting St. Would i be right in saying Dr Johnson Passage was opposite Greys by the Quaker building.Dek
