I can't understand why they think changing the name of a pub is of any benefit unless the pub has a really bad name and they think that changing the name will make things better. I've always thought that there is no such thing as a bad pub, but there are plenty of bad managers.

And they are the ones who change the names and ruin our pub culture.

david c i blame my dad for my preference to mild as i often used to sip it from the jug as i carried it back from the outdoor ;) when i was neare to the drinking age it always had to be mb or ansells mild when i was 18 in 1965 my family moved to banbury with birds custard the only beer you could get was hunt edmunds and hook norton yuck i did persevere with it until allied brewery came to town and was amalgamated with mb then king pin mild was put on tap heaven until mild almost disapeared in in the town , i returned to the west midlands in 2002 and know live in walsall my local sells highgate mild good pint but mine host leaves a lot to be desired so i do not frequent it very often which tends to mean my drinking is in the home,i wont drink and drive so its only when i am on one of my walkabouts round my old haunts of birmingham ie nechells/ ladywood and general area of brum i am partial to black country ales, david i am no relation to to the jones, oh and nathan i think tetley should stick to making teabags and john smiths should join them. ::)

Holdens, Simpkiss and Batham all Black Country Ales. Mouthwateringly tasty!
But Hook Norton a great beer! Or used to be. I think a lot of great beers have diminished in their flavour and strength over the years. Examples: Youngs of Wandsworth, Courage Directors, Bass. I think Fullers ESB of Chiswick is still a good one though overpriced.
Many local brews change from month to month and therefore are not memorable although strong tasting.
